Unless you are working with an exclusive buyer broker who can never be in a position of conflict with a seller client, you should not rely on the real estate agent to recommend a mortgage lender. In fact, you should choose your lender before you even talk to an agent! Get pre-approved and find out how much house you can afford. Remember that real estate brokers who work for the seller should not know your financial situation - it may be used against you! Be wary if they try to steer you to or from certain lenders. And watch out for loan officers at open houses or in real estate brokers' offices! Our only referrals come from previously satisfied customers who are happy to tell their family and friends, and from exclusive buyer brokers who just work with buyers and have a fiduciary duty to their clients to assist in obtaining the most attractive financing terms and conditions.
